Loss and Damage
When climate impacts go beyond what people can adapt to, what is lost, who pays, and who decides?
Why it matters
Loss and Damage at Kathmandu Climate Week
Nepal is already living through the consequences of a changing climate, from floods and landslides to pressures on agriculture, infrastructure, livelihoods and mountain ecosystems. Some of these impacts can no longer be avoided or adapted to: homes, land, income, culture and lives are lost.
Kathmandu Climate Week looks beyond headline commitments to the realities of climate-related disasters, and to the communities experiencing loss and damage firsthand, including lessons emerging from the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi floods.
What we will discuss
- How loss and damage finance can reach affected communities without deepening debt
- What the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi floods reveal, and how media report on disasters
- How research can inform policy on loss and damage in Nepal
- How infrastructure can be climate-proofed after the August 2026 flash flood
